FRANCIS C. BURNS
MIDLAND - Francis Cyril Burns, 72, of Midland, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 6, 1924, in
Midland, he was a son of the late Francis P. Burns and Loretta (Monahan) Burns. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Colleen Buckley.

Mr. Burns was a former employee of the State of Maryland Department of Highways, working on a survey crew for eight years. He retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Co., where he worked from 1963 to 1987. He also served as bailiff at the Allegany County Court House for six years.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, and the Holy Name Society, and received the Archdiocesan Medal of Honor in 1993. He was a graduate of LaSalle High School; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and member of John Devlin Post 169 American Legion, Midland.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Rita (Bradley) Burns; daughter, Mary Rita McKinley and husband Bill, Midland; granddaughter, Molly, University of Maryland, Baltimore; grandson, Michael, at home; two nephews, Edmond Buckley and wife Melinda, Forest Park, Ill., and Francis Buckley and wife Holly, Ellicott City; and three great-nieces, Katie, Ailey and Maggie Buckley.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, on Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Ed Hedricks as celebrant.

A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. by Sr. Joan Maenner, O.S.F., Pastoral Life Director at St. Joseph's Church.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Midland.
