JOHN J STAKEM

FROSTBURG - John Joseph Stakem, 74, of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, Frostburg, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born March 4, 1925, in Midland, he was a son of the late John Joseph Stakem and Annie (Byrnes) Stakem. Also preceding him in death are a brother, Thomas P. Stakem; and a sister, Margaret Mills.

Mr. Stakem was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, the Frostburg Moose Lodge #348, and Farrady Post #24 American Legion, Frostburg. He was retired from the Maryland State Highway Administration, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the former owner of Jack & Ginny's Restaurant, Frostburg, until 1979.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Mae "Ginny" (Schramm) Stakem; a daughter, Julie Ann Stakem, and friend, Delbert Fraley, Frostburg; two stepsons, Roy C. Wilhelm and wife, Pam, and son, Brandon Grant, Savage River, and Craig F. Wilhelm, and fiancee Lisa Ritchie, and daughter, Autumn Ritchie, Frostburg; a sister, Pauline O'Brien, Frostburg Village Nursing Home, and husband, Daniel O'Brien; a brother-in-law, Charles Schramm, and wife, Velma, Rock Hill, S.C. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Paula James, Lawrence Mills, Krista Lee, Lisa Wilson; great-nieces and nephews, Maggie Mills, Colin Mills, Caitlin Mills, Kacie Lee, Kelsey Lee, Heather Wilson, Wade Wilson; four stepgrandchildren, Roy F. Wilhelm, Michelle Benedetto, Tonya Wilhelm and Tia Welhelm; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Tuesday, April 27, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, April 28, 1999, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 29, 1999, at 9 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, with Father Ed Hendricks, Celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Midland.

A Christian Wake Service will be held Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at 7:30 p.m., with Sister Joan Maenner OSF, Pastoral Life Director.

Frostburg Moose Lodge #348 will hold a memorial service Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at 7:15 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Delbert Fraley, Dave Pennington, Larry Mills, James Ricker, Tom Gordon and Charles Schramm.
